How To Replace a Lost or Stolen Passport
It is important to report your passport lost or stolen right away to protect yourself from identity theft. You can replace it now or at a later date. Once you report your passport lost or stolen it then becomes invalid and can no longer be used for international travel.
How to Report Your Passport Lost or Stolen

How to Replace a Lost or Stolen Passport
To replace a lost or stolen passport, you must submit Form DS-11 in person. You can use our search post offices nearby page to find a location that offers passport services so you can call and schedule an appointment.

You are outside the United States | Contact your nearest US embassy or consulate to replace your passport. |
You can confirm that they mailed out your passport. You can use their Online Passport Status System at https://passportstatus.state.gov/ or contact the National Passport Information Center (NPIC) online at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/contact-us/passports.html. After 10 days since your new passport was mailed and you still have not received it, then they recommend you contact NPIC. If not reported within 90 days from the date issued, you will be required to re-apply and pay all applicable fees.

You can return the passport of a deceased relative for cancelation. They will then return the passport after it is canceled. Please submit the following:
- The valid passport
- A certified copy of the death certificate
- A letter requesting the cancelation and return (or destruction) of the passport
